Glossary

Duodenum: The first portion of the small intestines. Biliary secretions from the bile duct and pancreatic secretions from the pancreatic duct drain into the duodenum.

Pancreatic head: The medial portion of the pancreas (with the body and tail coarsing laterally toward the spleen) that contains the confluence of bile and pancreatic ducts draining into the duodenum.

Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas usually caused by chronic alcoholism or gallstone disease.
