“Beauty lasts five minutes. Maybe longer if you have a good plastic surgeon” -Tia Carrere A thorough discussion with a plastic or cosmetic surgeon who specializes in face-lift is the first step in the agenda. One must inform the doctor of one’s expectations from the surgery. The doctor will study the skin type, texture and based on the patient’s general health and fitness will decide on the best type of facelift that can be offered to the patient. One has to stop smoking as it causes problems not only during anesthesia for the operation, but also interferes with wound healing in the recovery period. It is also advisable to stop any drug that may interfere with the clotting of blood. The doctor would like to take the full frontal and side view pictures for post-operative reference. Anesthesia The operation is most often done under general anesthesia. Some surgeons may also perform the same under deep sedation with local anesthesia. One must not eat or drink for at least six hours prior to an operation. The anesthetist renders the patient asleep and the operation commences. |
