Text
Although face-lift sounds like a very simple operation, as in other surgeries complications can happen. Complications due to anesthesia also are possible. Those due to anesthesia may include vomiting, chillness and sore throat. Complications arising out of the operative procedure are:
• Bruising and swelling is often mild and fades away after a while. • Pain is common to all surgeries, is fortunately not very severe after a face-lift. • Necrosis or dying of the skin is a dreaded complication. • The most feared complication is formation of a clot or hematoma which is due to persistent bleeding in the wound and which has to be dealt with as an emergency because it can harm the stitches. • Some people experience loss of sensation over certain areas of the face, which is due to damage to the nerves supplying the face during the operation. This usually returns to normal after a period of time. • Hair loss also occurs along the areas of the stitches though very often is temporary. Post-operative care as instructed will help early healing and avoidance of complications. The doctor may instruct the patient to avoid straining or bending until the suture heals. One may also avoid wearing clothes that have to pass over the head and eschew from going out in the sun. In good surgical hands, face-lift is a safe surgery and the patient can enjoy up to 5-10 years of youthfulness and experience increased self-confidence. So select your plastic surgeon with care. |
