Glossary

Arthroscopic surgery: Surgery carried out with an instrument called an arthroscope

Ehlers: Danlos syndrome: Group of inherited disorders that affect connective tissues

Menisci: Two disc-shaped cushions present within the knee joint

Osteoarthritis: Condition in which the cartilages of the knee wear off

ECG / Electrocardiogram: This is a non-invasive procedure, where electrodes are positioned on the chest and connected to a device that records the electrical activity of the heart, output as a graph

Patellar tendon: A tendon that connects the patella or the knee cap to the tibia

Hamstring muscles: Muscles of the back of the thigh which include biceps femoris, semimembranosus and semitendinosus

Spinal anesthesia: A type of regional anesthesia, where the anesthetic is injected into the backbone

Synovial tissue: Tissue that lines the joint and secretes a fluid called synovial fluid
