Yellow Ribbon - Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer occurs in the bowel occupying both the colon and rectal regions. Blue ribbon symbol is used to create awareness for early detection of colorectal cancer as 50% of colorectal cancer deaths can be avoided if detected early. Colorectal cancer is asymptomatic in early stages so it is recommended that men and women above the age of 50 should undergo a regular Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) every two years followed by colonoscopy, which can detect and facilitate the removal of benign polyps, the precusors for colorectal cancer. The chances of developing colorectal cancer is 1 in 20 persons and this can be avoided by spreading the awareness about screening for early detection of colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer month is celebrated on the month of March each year to emphasize the importance of early detection and treatment for colorectal cancer which can help to reduce the suffering of these eldery citizens through out the world
