Smoking still remains one of the leading causes of preventable death. Smoking has the dubious distinction of affecting all the systems from head to foot. In spite of various technological advancements, tobacco still claims one life every ten seconds somewhere in the world. Tobacco can be consumed in various forms such as a cigar or cigarette, in a smoking pipe, in a water pipe, by a hookah, by chewing or by using finely powdered snuff tobacco, which is sniffed into the nose. Every year May 31st is observed as the World No-Tobacco Day. The World Health Organization draws attention to issues related to tobacco on this special day, May 31, which has been designated by the World Health Assembly.
