General Info about Vasculitis

RSS Feeds   Text
Vascular system is made up of a network of blood vessels, which includes veins, arteries and capillaries. The inflammation of these blood vessels can occur in any part of the body and is referred to as Vasculitis. Vasculitis causes changes in the walls
of blood vessels, such as thickening, weakening, narrowing and scarring. In certain cases the blood cells itself can invade the vessel wall, leading to damage of the surrounding tissue and obstruction of the vessel itself. Due to obstruction of vessel, the blood flow to a particular organ is reduced which damages the organ in the long run. The severity of this condition and its consequences depends on the site, size and extent of vessel involvement.

They have shown vasculitis to be linked to siderosis and a lack of antioxidants. Siderosis causes oxidation so one can understand WHY one might be low on antioxidants. Low iron diet and iron depletion therapy. "For the first time, we present one patient with vasculitis of the central nervous system associated with systemic hemochromatosis in superficial siderosis. Therapeutic approach included immunosuppressive therapy and venupunctures in the patient with vasculitis and hemochromatosis, and symptomatic treatment with chelating agents and antioxidants. The patient remained clinically stable for the follow-up period of up to 2 years."

among non steroidal immunosuppresents can mycophenolate mofetil be used which is perhaps less aggressive than cyclophosphamide. in one case i know it is being given at dosage of 500mg bd, and there have been no serious side effects. i would like to know if anybody else has used this immunosuppressent brandname is CelCtep by hoffman La Roche. subros1
