Though technically peanut is not actually a “nut” but a legume, still people allergic to peanuts can exhibit similar allergic reactions to other tree nuts such as walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, and cashews. The proteins found in the peanuts are similar in structure to those found in other tree nuts. Cross Reaction: Since peanuts are a part of legume family, so if someone is allergic to peanuts, possibility is, he might be allergic to peas, lima beans, soybeans, and lentils too. Hidden Sources: Some Oriental Sauces, Candy, Chocolate, Sunflower Seeds, Peanut Flour, Nut Butters, and Thai Dishes. Other Names: Arachis Oil, Beer Nuts, Ground Nut, Kernels, Nut Meat. |
