This is a condition where the size of the tongue is abnormally small. Cases of complete absence of the tongue have been reported. Fortunately, it is a rare condition. Obviously, a tiny tongue will pose many difficulties related to speech and swallowing. There is no treatment for this condition, and the affected person will have to train their tongue to the best of their abilities. |

Posted on: 07/13/2009 My 5 year old daughter appears to have another small tongue growing at the back of her throat. It is quite bizarre and i have never seen anything like it. It is right at the back and can only be seen when checking for a sore throat and opens her mouth very wide. Is it really a phenomenon as there is so little on the web.

Posted on: 09/10/2009 I have just noticed the same exact think on my son. He is about the same age, four-and-a-half. I was checking his throat when I noticed it; I have never noticed it before now, nor have I seen or heard of anything like this. Does anyone know what this is??

Posted on: 09/21/2009 I recently asked the kids' doctor and she told me it was his epiglottis I was seeing. She told me most people can't stick their tongues out that far and that's why I hadn't noticed it before; nothing abnormal after all. Hope this helps some of you! |

Posted on: 11/23/2011 How is your neice now? My little 9 month old was just told that her tongue is large so i have to take her to doctor or friday for more test. I'm worried even though the doctor and husband doesn't seem to worry as much but I was looking up the symptoms and so far the only thing i see is yes she snores and yes she plays w/ her teeth but that could be becuase she is teething now so how do we know whats the problem. How serious is this? Should i be freaking out like I am doing or wills he grow in her tongue. Thats what the doctor said that she will do but i dont know about that, please someone help me understand this and put my fear at ease. |
