Typical features of tarsal tunnel syndrome include burning or tingling sensation, numbness, aching, sharp, electric type of radiating pain along the posterior tibial nerve.

Patients with tarsal tunnel syndrome typically experience the following symptoms along the medial ankle and the under surface of the foot. The symptoms may extend to the heel, arch, toes or even to the calf region. These include:

Proper evaluation of the symptoms is necessary to rule out other conditions that may cause similar symptoms.

The symptoms might be worsened by increased use of the foot or activity such as prolonged standing, walking or exercising, and are usually relieved by rest. However, some patients report pain even during rest especially during nights.
