Sleepwalking - Symptoms

Boys are more prone to sleepwalking than the girls.

Though sleep walking mainly affects children, some adults also experience this disorder. The frequency of sleep walking episodes may vary among victims – for some it could be as less as one event a month, while for others it could be regular nightly occurrences. Boys are more prone to sleep walk than girls.

Sleepwalking movements vary from simple movements during sleep to more complex ones like - sudden sitting up, or walking around the room or walking out of the house. In extreme cases, people have been known to cook, or even drive, while asleep. Typically sleepwalkers may experience difficulty waking-up during sleepwalking state.

There is no memory of the event.

During the episode, the sleep walker may portray strange expressions keeping the eyes wide open. Often with an empty look, the victim may talk gibberish all through the episode. Some may even use unparliamentary language, otherwise unheard of during the victim’s waking hours. Children may tend to urinate in undesignated places during such sleep walking episodes.
