It is advisable to get a clearance from your Gynecologist if you are very keen on continuing your exercise regimen during pregnancy as well. This has to be done during the initial stages of the pregnancy itself. How should I begin an exercise program? You should choose an exercise program that does not cause any pain, breathlessness or tiredness. It is also appropriate to decrease the level of exercise during pregnancy. What types of exercise are best when I'm pregnant? Cycling at one place, light aerobics, swimming, walking, and yoga are some of the best exercises that are considered safe during pregnancy. What should I be careful about? Pregnant women should avoid any exercises that may lead to abdominal pain, falls, and straining the joints. What are the problems to be communicated to my doctor? It is important to take medical advice immediately if symptoms of membrane rupture or vaginal bleeding manifest before or after exercise. Sudden or severe abdominal or vaginal pain, contractions that continue for some time after the exercise has been stopped, chest pain and/or breathlessness also require immediate consultation. |
