Symptoms of Orthorexia Nervosa
What Orthorexics Experience?
While the side-effects of Orthorexia Nervosa are not as bad as crash dieting, patients tend to manifest the following symptoms -
- Deficient diets can contribute to illnesses ranging from the flu, anemia, or cancer.
- This type of eating disorder can produce an inadequate intake of vitamins and minerals, leading to avitaminosis, changes in blood pressure, osteoporosis and a hardening of arterial walls.
- Most orthorexics have a protein deficiency and are deficient in calcium and iron.
- They also have low sugar levels; therefore often feel tired and listless. This belies the myth that healthy food energizes you.
- It is common for victims of orthorexia to have pale skin and be thin.
