The incidence of this disorder is one in every 2,500 births. It can occur in association with cleft lip or can occur independently. The cleft can either be unilateral or bilateral. It is more common among females. The sibling of a child with a cleft palate has a higher risk of having a cleft palate. The risk associated with the recurrence of a cleft lip is negligible. |
