Genetically modified food and genetically modified organism research and its application in form of technology are also known as genetic engineering or recombinant DNA technology or genetic biotechnology. Specific individual genes are selected which are transferred from one organism to another, where the species may be related or unrelated. A different strain of the organism is obtained which is genetically modified or transgenic in nature. There are many modern genetically engineered medications and vaccines, food and fibers, which are now in common usage.
Genetically modified foods are a cause of many scientific, environmental, legal, economic and social debate as they are linked to ethical, political, and health safety concerns.
