General Info About Fracture

The bones constitute for the bony framework of the body, providing support and mobility. At birth we have over 300 bones. As we grow up, some of these bones fuse together as a result an adult has only 206 bones. The term 'Fracture' technically refers to a break or rupture, especially in a bone.

Bones are strong enough to support the entire body weight, but are yet light enough to allow flexibility of movement. In tensile strength bone is rather like cast iron, although around 1/3 of the weight. Infact, the thighbone is so strong that it can withstand the axial load of about 1600-1800 kilos.

There is a breaking point for almost anything and the bone is no exception. If more pressure is put on a bone than it can withstand, it will split or break The pressure can be sudden or it can be the result of a constant pressure applied over a specific area.
