A Fetal Alcohol Syndrome |
Text
In women who drink heavily during pregnancy, the alcohol can diffuse across the placenta to affect the fetus. The result is the fetal alcohol syndrome, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe physical and mental abnormalities. Surprisingly, a research done on alcoholism and adoption has revealed that when adopted children had an alcoholic biological parent, they were 2.3 times more likely to develop alcoholism than when they had nonalcoholic biological parents! |

Posted on: 03/26/2007 I am very interested in research into the FAS and FASD developing in babies from the paternal side. I have read in literature from USA that binge drinking young males could damage the sperm count enough to father children with FAS or FASD even if the mother does not drink whilst pregnant. Is there any UK research on this subject?
