There is no specific treatment for Japanese encephalitis. Antibiotics are not effective against viruses, and no effective anti-viral drugs have been discovered. The treatment is targeted at symptomatic relief of the patients. The treatment is also dependent on the complications involved. Intravenous fluids may be given to maintain the hydration status of the patient. Painkillers can be given to reduce the associated pain. Anticonvulsants to control seizures, ventilation support, and feeding are the standard treatments. Mannitol is used to decrease intracranial pressure when needed.Surgical intervention may be needed in some cases Surgical intervention may be needed in some cases
