Most people with small colon polyps do not have symptoms. They may only get found out during an examination of the bowel.

Most people with small colon polyps do not have symptoms. They may only get found out during an examination of the bowel.

Signs and symptoms include:

  • Rectal bleeding: Rectal bleeding should be discussed with a doctor. It is not specific for colon polyps since it can also occur in colon cancer, hemorrhoids or minor tears (fissures)
  • Blood in stool: Red streaks in stool or bowel movements appearing black should be evaluated.
  • Constipation, diarrhea or narrowing of the stool that lasts for more than a week.
  • Crampy abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and severe constipation
