Causes and Risk Factors of Age Related Macular Degeneration

Risk factors of the disease are as follows:

Bullet Age

Bullet Female gender

Bullet Race (advanced form of AMD is more common in whites)

Bullet Smoking

Bullet Obesity/ High cholesterol intake

Bullet Sunlight exposure

Bullet Hypertension and cardiovascular disease

Bullet Genetic factors

Age is the most important risk factor. The prevalence of AMD increases with age. It increases from 1.6% in the 52-64yr group to 27.9% above 74 yrs of age.

Hello, your article was indeed very educative. Further i would like to add that amongst the other Treatment modalities, STEM CELL TREATMENT is emerging as a very promising candidate for treatments. For example I have had a personal experience of stem cell treatment by Advancells. The results so far has been quite good.
