A thin vertebral bone at birth is more susceptible, especially during periods of rapid growth It is prevalent in some populations like the Eskimos, where the incidence is 30-50% Constant stress on the bones of the lower back and hyperextension (over stretching) of the spine causes stress fracture of the vertebra. Cricket fast bowlers appear to be more susceptible, with a prevalence of 55% reported by many teams. |
