How can we diagnose Parkinson's Disease ?

RSS Feeds   Text
Based on history & examination diagnosis is carried out. Most of the tests related to it are normal. Certain tests maybe required to puncture the spine and the fluid CSF is examined.

The process of making a Parkinson Disease diagnosis can be difficult. There is no X-ray or blood test that can confirm PD. A physician arrives at the diagnosis only after a thorough examination. Signs and symptoms are taken into consideration, while blood tests and Imaging Techniques or brain scans, known as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), or positron-emission tomographic (PET) may be performed to rule out other conditions that have similar symptoms. As the disease is associated with older individuals sometimes even doctors miss out on younger patients.

People suspected of having PD should consider seeking the care of a neurosurgeon /neurologist who specializes in Parkinson disease.
