The symptoms and their duration
The posture adapted by you in daily life
Whether the condition is present from birth
If you suffer from any diseases like osteoporosis or osteoarthritis of spine or infectious disease of the spine like tuberculosis
If you had a Spinal injury
After gathering your history, the doctor will conduct a physical examination to confirm the deformity. This examination includes
Observation and palpation of the spinal area. (In kyphosis, the muscles will be tender and on palpation cause pain)
Looking for the appearance of the curve of the spine, which will be too far outwards, resembling a hunch back, when viewed from the side. (This will confirm the deformity.)
You will probably undergo Other Tests too.
X-rays: to detect the severity of the curvature of the spine.
Bone - Scan: to evaluate any degeneration or tumor or infections or fractures of the bones of the spine
MRI Scan: to detect any damage to the spinal cord, especially if neurological symptoms are present
CT Scan: to detect abnormalities in the spinal cord like tumors or disc degeneration etc.
