Psychoactive drugs affect the central nervous system and act by altering a person's feelings, thoughts and behavior.


The reasons for the abusive usage of substances may vary from person to person. Some common features of these substances are:

 All drugs of abuse act by altering feelings, thoughts, and behavior.

 They act by directly affecting the brain or the central nervous system (CNS).

 The common substances that tend   to be abused are-

a. Alcohol.

b. Cannabinoids (Cannabis, Marihuana).

c. Stimulants (Cocaine, Amphetamine, Caffeine, Nicotine).

d. Depressants/Sedatives/ Hypnotics / Tranquillizers (Barbiturates, Benzodiazepine).

e. Narcotics (Heroin, Opium).

f. Hallucinogens / Acids (LSD, Phencyclidine).

g. Inhalants (Volatile solvents, Dissociative   anesthetics).

h. Steroids (Anabolic).

 Currently there are certain drugs, called Club drugs, that are designed in the labs and sold in the streets, and are the synthetic forms of the existing drugs, often referred to as 'RAVES' by the younger crowds. These include-

a. MDMA/Ecstasy.

b. Marihuana

c. Cocaine

d. PCP

my daughter is intreatment as of this letter.she is a drug abuser of all drugs and she told me that she was born with an addicted personality.dont't we all have some kind of addiction be it coffee,video games etc?my probelm understanding this comment from her is that she used the drugs time and again,but had she never did these drugs,she would not have this addiction?
