Diabetes - Healthy Snack |

This includes a vegetable sandwich or a fruit or biscuits or buttermilk or skimmed milk. It is important for those on specific types of Oral Hypoglycemic Agents (OHAs) or on short-acting insulin (4-6 hours action) to carry a snack. An attack of hypoglycemia can occasionally happen due to a missed meal. This happens when on a outing like shopping or when visiting hospitals for check-up in the morning hours resulting in missing a mid-morning snack before lunch. It is very important to carry a fruit or a packet of biscuits (e.g. Marie) while going out and one must remember to eat it at the right time (mid-morning or mid-evening). Since short-acting insulin peaks after 2-2.5 hours of injection, it is important to eat a healthy snack at that time. |
