Which doctor should I consult if I am diagnosed with breech presentation of the baby?

You should consult a Gynecologist

What is breech presentation?

By around 8 months, most babies settle down in head down position, known as a cephalic presentation. A baby is said to be in breech presentation when the buttocks of the baby are presenting first at the bottom of the uterus.

Why does Breech Presentation occur?

In most cases of breech presentation no direct cause is found. Conditions that will make a breech presentation more likely include abnormalities of the womb such as fibroids, twin pregnancy, a low-lying afterbirth (placenta) and a premature delivery.

What is moxibustion?

Moxibustion is Traditional Chinese medicine that uses burning herbs to stimulate acupuncture points, and it may be helpful in turning breech babies when applied to the little toe. Its effect may be through increasing fetal activity.

What is meant by External cephalic version?

If your baby is in a breech position, your doctor may try turning him around by pushing strategically on your belly so that it's in the head down position. This procedure is called external cephalic version, and it is usually done in a hospital setting where the baby's heart rate can be carefully monitored.

Can a breech baby be delivered without a cesarean?

Although breech babies can be delivered vaginally, it's generally safer and easier to deliver babies head first from the vagina. So, many times doctors deliver breech babies by cesarean delivery.
