1. Which specialist should I see if I have anemia?

You should consult a general Physician.

2. What are the different ways to supplement iron?

Eating food, which are rich in iron and taking iron tablets supplement, the lack of iron in the body. Also, iron can be given intra muscularly. Iron dextran given IM reaches peak concentration in 24-48 hours.

3. Is anemia hereditary?

Yes, hereditary disorders can cause anemia. Hereditary anemia can be mild or severe depending upon the severity of the genetic disorder. Hereditary disorders hamper the production of hemoglobin, which can result in anemia.For instance, disorders such as Thalassemia are known to impair the production of hemoglobin. Some hereditary disorders can reduce the life span of the red blood cells and cause anemia.

4. What are the complications of anemia?

Low hemoglobin in the blood results in reduced oxygen level in the body tissues.This can result in a condition called hypoxia, when the body has inadequate oxygen levels required to function.

im 19 years old, delayed 1 month of menstruation, we have last contact with my boyfriend on last week of june 2011. and now, i try the PT. the result is 2 line, the one is clear line and the one is not so clear, . im worried because they said im pregnant. and my blood is 70/50 only, anemic they said..

You first need to make sure that you haven't had a spontaneous abortion with retained product of conception. Your blood pressure is low (70/50), Are you loosing blood? Time to see a gynecologist. Kiritharan Arunasalam, MD., FRCP(C)
