In the 1900s intravenous injections of various anesthetic agent were administered which was very convenient for both the patient and the doctor. The discovery of capnograph and pulse oximeter resulted in the marked reduced the mortality rates due to anesthesia. Anesthesia today is very safe with the mortality risk rate of 1 in 250000. With continuous and sustained improvements in anesthetic management and development of sophisticated monitoring systems, surgeries have now been pushed to a new dimension, than when it started ago, several years ago. |
