Low Carbohydrate Diet and Weight Loss |
|
Text
|
No denying the fact that weight loss if rapid and results quick. In the short term, most people who go on low carb diets do lose weight and they lose it very quickly. However, the majority of weight loss comes from loss of water and muscle tissue, not fat which is what you need to lose to keep the weight off. Also, if trying to lose weight permanently, losing precious lean muscle tissue is like sabotaging your own body. Muscle tissue is metabolically active, and burns calories even when at rest. A decrease in the amount of muscle tissue will lead to a decrease in the number of calories needed each day to maintain weight, making it much harder to keep weight under control when the diet is stopped. |

Posted on: 11/23/2010 Yes, it is true that [except for clever cooks who are good with spices and food combinations], the Atkins (low-carb) diet is very boring.
But consider these points:
* Those who need to eat a lot can eat lots of very high protein foods with no problem and no hunger!
* For most people, no more worries about weight gain, diabetes, or lipid imbalances that can lead to death from circulatory and cardiac illnesses.
* More energy, better sleep, and less depression for many, especially when combined with regular meditation and exercise.
You decide.
