Oats with milk

Oats are an excellent option. They are high in soluble fiber and reduce bad cholesterol. They are also a good source of many micronutrients.

Broken wheat

Instant broken wheat grits can be had with warm milk. Broken wheat can be cooked with milk in the microwave and can be had as porridge. It can also be cooked and made into an upma. It’s rich in carbohydrates, proteins, fiber and vitamin E.

Muesli

Muesli is made of wheat flakes, corn flakes, uncooked rolled oats and has added dry fruits and nuts.

Right Choice magazine in its recent issue had guidelines on how to opt for the right cereal. Its survey said that each serving of cereal should provide at least 3 grams of fiber and contain less than 5 grams of sugar. Opting for cereals fortified with vitamin C, vitamin D, and folic acid is advantageous. It insisted that the customer read the label of ingredients on readymade cereals thoroughly, and look for words like ‘whole grains’ (which does not anyway mean that the product is 100 percent whole grain). Corn meal and rice flour may be significant ingredients. One must look for labels that say ‘whole wheat’ or ‘wheat bran’, the magazine suggested. On considering the above parameters, Bagrry’s fruit and fiber muesli, Bagrry’s healthy choco crunch delight, and Kellogg’s Cornflakes original were found to be the best options. Kellogg’s chocos, honey loops, real banana, mango, and strawberry made for children are rich in iron but high on sugar too.

A wholesome breakfast and small frequent meals throughout the day increases the metabolic rate. It increases energy levels and decreases appetite. Such a schedule of eating helps maintain blood sugar levels. On starving, blood sugar levels have peaks and lows that eventually lead to over-eating.

Most people try to cut calories by skipping meals but in the bargain, drastically slow down their metabolism. The best way to lose weight is to actually eat small quantities throughout the day.

Having discussed the points given above, it is important that one must participate in aerobic exercises for at least half-an-hour everyday.
