Popcorn is highly tasty and economical. At the same time it is easy to prepare. Popcorn can be popped in an electric popper, on the stove or over an open fire.

Process of making popcorn in a pan:

  • Warm a heavy pan.
  • Add 1/4 cup of cooking oil to the pan.
  • Allow the oil to heat thoroughly.
  • Test the heat of the oil by dropping one or two kernels.
  • When the kernel pops or spins in the oil add the remaining popcorn.
  • Put enough kernels to cover the bottom of the pan.
  • Cover the pan and shake to evenly coat each kernel.
  • Cover the pan with a loose lid that allows steam to escape
  • When the popping begins to slowdown, remove the pan.
  • The heated oil will pop the remaining kernels.
  • Pre-salting kernels toughens popcorn so toss salt on the popcorn at the end of the cooking process.
