I check 2 days, value of pasting blood sugar were 277 and 270. What should i do?

Yesterday during my morning walk/exercise I became extremely week and lost the ability to walk. I had to lie on the sidewalk until an ambulance arrived. As they lifted my up I went unconscious for 50 seconds and during my 15 minute trip to the emergency room my arms were to limp to raise and I didn't know what year it was. My serum blood glucose level dropped to 35 mg/dl. I actually ate 3 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches just be sleep, although I don't usually eat before my morning exercise. I've been walking/exercises for over a year and nothing new has happened to me recently. I never had any issues with glucose levels before. I'm 59 male 6'0 210 lbs. I'm curious as if anyone else had this type of issue or why this would happen and how to prevent it other then having hard candy with me.
