AID Virus is completely inactivated by treatment with
10% Household bleach
1% Nonidet P40
0.3% hydrogen peroxide
The virus is also inactivated by extremes in pH (pH 1.0 and 13.0).
Virus is rapidly inactivated (<1 minute) by exposure to undiluted household bleach.
Virus is readily inactivated in liquids or 10% serum by heating at 56º C for 10 minutes.
Lyophilized blood products would need to be heated at 68º C for 72 hours to ensure inactivation of contaminating virus.
