Low calorie diet
essentially involves consuming foods that are high on nutritional content and
yet have fewer calories. Low calorie
diet, which underlines the importance of consuming healthy and nutritious food
is beneficial to achieve weight loss and reduce the incidence of lifestyle
diseases. Low calorie foods aren't the only solution to losing weight, but one needs to follow a nutritionally balanced diet so as to shed kilograms the right way. ![]() A low calorie diet is any diet that allows 800 to 1000 calories or less in a day. Low calorie diet does not mean the consumption of reduced amounts of calorie-rich foods. Such a diet only precipitates hunger, causes interim weight loss and deprives the body of nutrition. Highly processed foods are good to avoid as they contain empty calories. They contain plenty of sugar and have a low nutritional value. Their fiber content is also inadequate, therefore they are unable to regulate metabolism in the body, which can be the cause of lifestyle diseases. The secret is to consume foods, which are high on nutrients and fiber and low on calories. Low calorie diet is not recommended for children, adolescents, and pregnant women. Individuals who usually go on such a diet are extremely overweight or morbidly obese. Dieters usually lose 2 to 3kgs per week or a total of about 30kgs in 12 weeks. The specifics of the diet are hard to describe as the diet mainly depends on your individual needs. A British study has revealed the immense gains of adopting a low-calorie diet for victims of Type- 2 diabetes. Diabetics who adopted a low-calorie diet for two months were better able to manage their sugar levels and some of them were completely cured of the condition without the need for medicines or insulin. Those who are interested in choosing a low calorie diet should first consult a dietician. |
