A charity organization in Australia has urged young people not to indulge in Neknominate and other risky drinking games this Australia Day.
DrinkWise Australia said that even though the culture of binge drinking has been growing among people between 18 and 24 years of age, it is concerned over promotions that encourage irresponsible drinking practices, including indulging in drinking games, on Australia Day. The organization added that Australia Day should be seen as an opportunity to instill a sense of belonging and community for the nation.
"Promotions encouraging irresponsible drinking practices and rituals including drinking games as a part of an Australia Day ritual need to be called out as working against a safer drinking culture. Australia Day should be a time of celebration and reflection and, above all, it should instill a sense of belonging and community for the nation as a whole", DrinkWise Australia chief executive John Scott said.
