Women With Early-Stage Breast Cancer Not Being Provided Information on Surgical Options
A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons said that doctors were not providing full information to women with early breast cancer with respect to the disease and surgery options.
Researchers from the University of North Carolina contacted breast cancer survivors and asked a number of questions to test their knowledge of the disease.

On an average, the participants answered just half of the questions correctly and less than half of them said that their doctors had asked about their personal preference for surgery.

“We found that breast cancer survivors had fairly major gaps in their knowledge about their surgical options, including about the implications for recurrence and survival”, lead researcher Dr Clara Lee said.
