What Has Meat Eating Got to Do With Adoption?
Recently, a couple in Greece were shocked to find their application for child adoption rejected, on grounds of their vegetarian diet.
The explanation offered by The head of the Crete's welfare services, read thus:

"We asked the University of Crete medical school on the issue and they said the child's diet must include meat, fish, etc. We do not discriminate but we were obliged to check this out. The issue is now in the hands of the judicial authorities."

Calling the ruling based on diet as unacceptable, the couple have now petitioned to have the rejection reversed.

According to dieticians, children raised in ‘vegetarian’ homes are equally healthy, if not more. One can always include high protein substitutes like eggs and tofu to compensate the lack of meat in the diet.
