In an attempt to reduce the number of silly calls placed on the emergency helpline, the West Midlands Police have released a number of bizarre calls that they receive, including one asking for a lost laptop password and another which complained about the trouble in being served at a McDonald’s restaurant. The police service will be staging a 24-hour campaign on Twitter to highlight the misuse of the helpline.
Typically West Midlands Police receives over 1,500 calls a day to the 999 number. Every call that is not an emergency could be delaying response to a genuine life or death situation.
