WAGs Energizing "High Heels And Low IQs" Culture

WAGs(wives and girlfriends) are promoting a culture of ''high heels and low IQs'' due to which teenage girls are overlooking the importance of good character and abandoning intellectual endeavour in pursuit of fame, leading headmistresses have warned.

Many wives and girlfriends of top footballers are dazzled by superficial glitter which is inspiring girls to be footballers'' wives or girlfriends and overlook achievements in their own right.

The claim by members of the Girls'' Schools Association, representing top girls'' private schools, came as a survey of 1,000 parents found they felt WAGs were the worst influences on girls, reports the Telegraph.

The best influences were considered to be family, friends, teachers, Olympians such as Rebecca Adlington and businesswomen, the research found.

Jill Berry, GSA president, said: "It is the whole celebrity culture. Wags are famous because of their situation rather than their skills or talent."

Pat Langham, former GSA head and principal of Wakefield Girls'' High School, added: "If they believe to have cosmetic surgery, hair extensions and a good handbag will bag them a footballer and therefore fulfil their career aspirations, then they need better career aspirations.

"When I talk to the girls in my school, they see through the facade and sometimes see people with very high heels and quite low IQs."

The comments came at the launch of a new website - mydaughter.co.uk - which will offer tips from leading headmistresses on issues such as bullying, friendships, schoolwork and the use of social networking websites.
