by Rajshri on Nov 26 2009 8:05 PM

Adding a dash of vinegar to your meal may actually reduce blood sugar levels, food experts have claimed. However the need is to evaluate existing evidence to see if these claims are true.

Many studies have shown that adding vinegar to the meal prevents is rapid absorption in the body. This is done by preventing enzymes that convert carbohydrates to sugar. In this way vinegar may help prevent a rapid rise in blood sugar levels after food thereby allowing for better sugar control.

A study published in Diabetes Care, a journal of the American Diabetes Association in 2004 showed that people who consumed vinegar along with their meal were able to reduce their glycemic response or rise in blood sugar by at least 30%.

So as the studies show a little vinegar may actually be good for the body.
