Villagers Pledge Their Eyes As a Tribute to Harish Nanjappa’s Inspiring Organ Donation
The humanitarian act of Harish Nanjappa, who pleaded to donate his organs while he suffered a gruesome injury and abandoned on road has now influenced his villagers to follow his path.
Villagers of Karegowdanahalli in Gubbi taluk, a native of Harish have pledged to donate their eyes in the past two days, which coincides with the 13th day of his funeral rites.

About 180 villagers have committed to donate their eyes and they feel that they have paid tribute to Harish in this way. Harish eyes were the only organs that could be retrieved at the time of his death, but his eyes have given sight to two people. All the people have pledged their eyes to Narayana Nethralaya, who visited their village for an eye donation awareness campaign.

Nanjundappa, the gram panchayat member of the village, said, "The story was so inspiring that we all decided to pay respect to his action and pledged our eyes. When we heard that his eyes gave sight to two people, we could not control our tears. We wanted to make a big change and we started a campaign in the village and encouraged everyone to come forward and donate their eyes. We expected only 50 people to pledge their organs but in the end, we were surprised to see that there were close to 180 people."
