Despite receiving the best medical attention at Mumbai’s P.D Hinduja Hospital The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Leader Pramod Mahjan continues to show no signs of improvement in his condition. Doctors on Tuesday struggled to treat an acute respiratory problem trying to bring it under some control. Earlier on Tuesday morning the hospital Authorities had announced to the media that the 56-year-old politicians condition had further deteriorated.

Pramod Mahjan had been rushed to hospital after being shot at close rage in a “fit of rage” by his younger brother Pravin Mahjan. Ever since this sensational attack upon his life his condition has remained extremely critical.

The hospital spokesperson Anupam Verma shared with the media persons late in the evening that the acute respiratory distress syndrome has further worsened and is hence causing great concern. Therefore, adding the life support systems to maintain vital parameters have been enhanced.

"Right now, the overall condition is quite critical. Doctors are closely monitoring the situation and doing whatever is necessary." Said Verma

Pramod Mahajan was put on multiple organ support systems after he developed acute respiratory distress syndrome Monday.

The hospital authorities said the respiratory problem was a "known and feared complication" in patients with extensive multiple trauma, massive blood transfusion and systemic sepsis.

The BJP general secretary underwent a minor surgery Saturday to give him an abdominal wash. The hospital authorities said he continued to be on medication to support the blood pressure.

In his statement to the police, Pravin Mahajan, 46, has said he was not treated well by his "high-profile" brother. The accused said Pramod Mahajan often humiliated him.

Pravin Mahajan's lawyer maintains his client had been suffering from a mental disorder for the last few months and that relations between the two brothers were cordial.

Pravin Mahajan, who is married and has two teenaged children, had walked into Pramod Mahajan's apartment in central Mumbai April 22 and had opened fire at his elder brother from close range.

Among the front-ranking leaders of the main opposition party, Pramod Mahajan is considered a master strategist in the BJP and outside, and is known to enjoy close ties with leaders of almost all parties.

Born Oct 30, 1949, he is a graduate in physics and journalism as well as postgraduate in political journalism.

Elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996, Pramod Mahajan was political advisor to then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1998 before becoming a minister handling the parliamentary affairs, telecom and information and technology portfolios.
