NACO to Introduce 400 Additional AIDS/HIV Screening Centers

New Delhi :The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) is due to introduce 400 additional testing centers in several States across the country mainly in the central and northern parts of India. With the opening of the additional testing centers, the number of centers will total 1150.

Nearly 5.2 million people have been found combating HIV/AIDS, according to results from the annual sentinel surveillance in 706 sites across the country. There has been an increase of almost 72,000 cases as compared to the previous year.

The HIV rates especially among those with sexually transmitted diseases showed an increased figure over the previous year in Delhi, Rajasthan and Orissa but the number fell markedly below 1 per cent in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu also recorded a decrease in the number of sex workers.
