According to a Melbourne study australians go to hospitals with injuiries due to falls most of the time. This was published in the latest issue of the Medical Journal of Australia.
38 per cent or nearly two in five are related to falls of all hospital cases.Associate Professor David Fonda, director of aged care at Caulfield General Medical Centre led the study and incorporated a falls prevention program into the aged care services wards of the hospital.
It found the three-year fall-prevention project significantly reduced the number of falls and falls that caused serious injury.
"Our study demonstrated that a low-cost, hospital-based multi-strategy falls-prevention program can significantly reduce the incidence of falls and fall-related serious injury among patients in aged-care wards," in the words of the authors.
This would prove beneficial in reducing costs as well as reducing falls!!!
