Women Are One-upping Men in the Longevity Game!

by Medindia Content Team on Apr 9 2006 5:25 PM

Women were the lesser mortals, with a lower life expectancy, until very recently, when things seem to be changing for the fair-sex. In 2006 especially, there appears to be a surge in the life expectancy rates of women the world over, so much so that they seem to have beaten men to it!

This change is particularly evident in developed nations and the gap seems to be narrowing in most Western European countries, with lifestyles and smoking patterns being almost equal between men and women. A recent report doing its rounds in the United Kingdom, speaks of 18-24 year old women in the UK giving men a stiff competition in alcohol consumption.
