The prime suspect behind the alleged leak of question papers of the MD/MS and PG Diploma courses entrance examination held by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), has been identified as a post-graduate student, P. Sathish Kumar, of the Madurai Medical College.

Satish Kumar (26),an MD (Paediatric) student, along with Ravi Kannan (28) of Madurai, MD (Physiology) and two other doctors have been taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in this case.

Their `modus operandi' involved smuggling out the question paper immediately after distribution and sending answers to the objective type questions through short messaging service (SMS) to the candidate. The beneficiaries of their service, who were sent answers to at least 300 objective type questions, were made to pay at least 2 lakhs.

A senior CBI official reported that six messages supplying answers to 50 questions were sent to these candidates who used their mobile phones clandestinely. He also reported that the potential beneficiaries were chosen through references according to financial status, with strict instructions for utmost secrecy even to members of family.

The official also revealed that this web of deception might well have also included other doctors, invigilators and even Government officials. Based on the information provided by the four apprehended suspects the CBI expects to close in on the others involved in the scam too.
