Punjab’s poultry industry seems to have taken a severe beating after the bird-flu fears sunk its sales, and rendered a strong blow to a thriving industry. It is estimated that nearly Rs 40 crore losses have been recorded, because of the fall in the consumption of chicken and eggs.

Poultry products’ consumption has fallen by 60-80 per cent. Nearly 150 poultry farmers have had to down the shutters of their business and like adding insult to injury, Jammu and Kashmir, one of the biggest consumers of the state’s poultry products has enforced a shut out of poultry products, creating more loss.
