Scientists from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, Marquette University, the Universities of Washington and Illinois, the Center for Disease Control, and the National Center for Health Statistics will assess the progress made towards achieving the "Healthy People 2010 Oral Health and Health Communication Objectives" (HP 2010) at the combined meeting of the American Association for Dental Research and the American Dental Education Association today.

The scientists will look at the following sections during the symposium: * Review the progress of the research initiatives towards reducing disparities in oral health and the role played by oral health literacy towards the same * Discuss the role to be played by the academia to increase awareness of oral health disparities * Analyze what objectives of HP2010 have been fulfilled so far * Discuss future measures for increasing health literacy This symposium holds special significance for research and academic communities since both are concerned with lessening the burden of oral disease, particularly among the most needy.
