Russia to Tackle the Avian Flu

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his ministry to set up a task force to fight bird flu. In Russia the virus has spread to five regions in southern Russia .

Bird flu was reported by the Federal Consumer Rights Oversight Service to be found affecting areas such as Stavropol, Dagestan, Krasnodar, Kalmykia and Adygeya regions.

President Putin said that he would establish a special structure which would monitor the spread of the disease across the Russian territory. Putin at a cabinet meeting said that the first Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev would lead this team. He said to the Interfax news agency that a government person should be responsible for the new mission and to head the task force.

Russia battled the virus for several months in some Siberian and western regions. But it has not been able to completely contain he avian flu. As of now no humans were infected by the virus.
