Questions have been raised against the use of Teflon. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) panel said that perfluorooctanoate a main ingredient used to make the substance nonsticky is a possible source of danger. It was found that when the coated cookware was heated to more than 600 degrees Fahrenheit then a person faces an unknown risk of cancer.
Teflon was accidentally discovered in 1938. The Frenchman was the first to figure out how to make a nonstick surface and actually stick to a pan. This led to the movement of Teflon from a military-industrial product to everybody's kitchen cook ware. It is also one of the hot topics for discussion in the political arena.

The EPA settled with Teflon's manufacturer for $16.5 million over the company's failure to report possible cancer risks. This chemical is also detected in small amounts in people's bloodstreams and other bodies of water.
Apart from this its non stick properties reduce the use of greasy groceries in dishes such as cookies and ice cream and fried eggs.
